COURSE STRUCTURE


Daily Practice

  • Each day you will practice parts of the classical ashtanga yoga primary series as created by Pattabhi Jois. Over the weeks you will gradually build until finally you can practice the full series, which includes sun salutations, traditional core poses, mantras and pranayama. 

Analytics & Workshops

  • In analytics class you will examine each pose one by one to learn correct alignment, technique, engagement, transitions and modifications. Workshops include working with injuries, adjustments, sequencing, meditation and pranayama. Bonus classes include aerial and acro yoga.

Anatomy & Physiology

  • Gain a deeper understanding of the structures and principles underlying each movement and of yoga itself. See how specific muscles respond to the movements of the joints with biomechanics; how alterations of a pose can enhance or reduce effectiveness; how the spine, breathing, and body position are all fundamentally linked; and the various bodily systems. 

Philosophy

  • Discover the true meaning of yoga by exploring the ancient wisdom of Patanjali’s Yoga Sutras. Examine the 8 limbs of ashtanga and learn how to cultivate an authentic yogic lifestyle. Our beloved instructor Manjeet Mathur in India explains how to lead a disciplined and balanced life through the yamas and niyamas.

Professional Essentials

  • Record yourself teaching each week building up to a complete 75 minute class for the final exam. You can teach friends, family or other students via Zoom. An instructor will examine your class and give you feedback. Also receive PDF books plus classes on teaching methodology, class design, professional development.

Live Classes

  • Optional live classes are held twice a day. Classes are a mix of physical practice and Q&A. Topics include hatha, vinyasa, ashtanga, anatomy, analytics, teaching methodology, pranayama, meditation and philosophy. Classes are recorded so you can watch later if you miss the time.

4hrs Teaching: Analytics

  • Record yourself teaching analytics for 80min
  • Teach someone at home or another student via Zoom
  • Explain in detail each pose, give a demonstration then assist your student
  • Use props, modifications and adjustments

  • Watch the video and write a self evaluation 
  • The instructor will review and give feedback

4hrs Theory Presentation 

  • Record and submit four 15min video presentations 
  • Choose four ashtanga topics of your choice
  • An instructor will review and give written feedback 

6hrs Adjustments

  • Watch the adjustment videos
  • Practice and than record yourself giving adjustments to another person
  • Watch the video and write a self evaluation
  • The instructor will review and give feedback

9hrs Self Study

  • Spend 45min a day to memorise the following:
  • English and Sanskrit names for each pose
  • Form and technique of each pose 
  • Opening and closing mantra
  • Dristi, bandhas and breath count
  • Key points of philosophy and anatomy lectures

30hrs Live Classes

  • Join 30hrs of live classes or watch recordings
  • Classes are a mix of physical practice and Q&A
  • Topics include hatha, ashtanga, anatomy and philosophy
  • Classes are Mon-Sat, twice a day, various times
