Course Overview

This training provides a balanced approach to Yin Yoga philosophy, anatomy, breathwork, and practical teaching skills.

Yin Yoga Lectures — 3.5 Hours

These lectures introduce the foundations of Yin Yoga, including its philosophical roots and teaching methodology.

Topics include:

  • Yin Yoga origins and philosophy

  • The Three Tattvas of Yin practice

  • Energetics and subtle body awareness

  • Chakras and meridian theory

  • Traditional Chinese Medicine principles

  • Sequencing and class design

  • Teaching Yin Yoga safely and effectively

  • Yin Yoga for pregnancy

Yin Yoga Practices — 15.5 Hours

This module focuses on the practical application of Yin Yoga through full-length classes and detailed asana labs.

Students will explore Yin Yoga practices including:

  • heart and hip openers

  • respiratory and lung health

  • myofascial line exploration

  • nervous system relaxation

  • lower back care and relief

  • joint and fascia focus

  • kidney and bladder meridians

  • prenatal and gentle inversions

These sessions are designed to support a wide range of needs, including fascia release, meridian stimulation, improved mobility, deep relaxation, and restorative healing.

Asana Labs — 6 Hours

This module includes both classical Hatha Yoga pose breakdowns and Yin Yoga asana labs.

The classical Hatha Yoga labs explore the traditional forms of foundational poses in detail. Understanding the classical version of each posture provides a strong technical foundation before exploring the gentler, long-hold variations used in Yin Yoga.

The Yin Yoga labs then demonstrate how these poses are adapted for Yin practice, focusing on relaxation, passive stretching, and connective tissue stimulation.

Together, these labs help students understand:

  • traditional pose alignment and structure

  • how Yin Yoga modifies classical poses

  • safe entry and exit strategies

  • functional variations for different bodies

Pranayama and Meditation — 6 Hours

This section introduces breathing practices that support calm awareness and nervous system regulation.

The pranayama techniques selected for this course emphasize:

  • parasympathetic activation

  • slow, mindful breathing

  • meditative awareness

These breathing practices pair beautifully with long Yin Yoga holds and meditation, helping practitioners deepen their ability to relax, observe sensation, and cultivate internal awareness.

Functional Anatomy for Yin Yoga — 6 Hours

Understanding anatomy is essential for teaching Yin Yoga safely.

This section focuses on:

  • fascia and connective tissue

  • joint structure and function

  • spinal anatomy

  • nervous system regulation

  • injury prevention

  • the concept of biotensegrity

These lessons help students understand why Yin Yoga works on deeper tissues and how to adapt poses for different bodies.

Self-Study — 6 Hours

Students deepen their understanding through independent study by:

  • reading the training manual

  • taking notes during the video lectures and asana labs

  • reviewing your notes

  • rewatching videos that you may need deeper study

  • journaling how you feel after every asana practice

  • reviewing your journal daily and reflecting on your development

Final Examination — 6 Hours

To complete the course, students will:

  1. Design a 75-minute Yin Yoga class

  2. Record yourself teaching the class

  3. Watch the recording and write a self-review

  4. Submit the video and written reflection for evaluation

  5. Receive feedback from an instructor

Students will receive feedback before final approval.

Certification

After successfully completing all course requirements and receiving approval of the final exam, students will receive a:

Yoga Alliance Continuing Education Certificate for Yin Yoga Training (40 Hours).

What Is Yin Yoga?

Yin Yoga is a slow-paced and meditative style of yoga where poses are held for longer periods of time.

Rather than focusing on muscular effort, Yin Yoga gently stresses the deeper connective tissues of the body, including:

  • fascia

  • ligaments

  • joints

  • bones

Rooted in Traditional Chinese Medicine, Yin Yoga works with the body’s meridian system, helping stimulate the flow of life energy known as Qi (Chi).

The practice invites students to slow down, turn inward, and develop a deeper awareness of both physical sensation and mental activity.

Regular Yin practice may help:

  • improve joint mobility and flexibility

  • release deep tension in the body

  • increase circulation

  • support digestion and organ health

  • cultivate patience and mindfulness

  • develop the ability to breathe through discomfort

Ultimately, Yin Yoga guides practitioners toward greater stillness, awareness, and inner balance.
