Location

  • Koh Phangan, Thailand is a magical island paradise with over thirty 30 beaches, pristine nature, exotic wildlife, lush green jungle, mountains and waterfalls. It is also famous for numerous yoga and wellness centres, healthy cuisine and bohemian lifestyle. 

Accommodation

  • Baan Jai Dee Resort is one of the most beautiful and highly rated locations on Koh Phangan. This modern western managed resort features a private beach, ocean front accommodation, healthy cafe, coworking space, sea view yoga shala and salt water infinity pool. All rooms have ocean view balconies, air-con, fridge, safe, hot water, daily cleaning and free wi-fi. Shared rooms have 4-6 beds.

  • For cheaper options you can pay tuition and stay at a dorm in Thong Sala such as Sea Hug Hostel, Blessing Backpackers, Treechart Hostel (7min drive). Or you stay at a bungalow next door such as Tranquil Bungalows, Cookies Bungalow, Beach 99 (7min walk). If only paying tuition then food and transportation are not included.

Food

  • Packages include a healthy vegetarian breakfast including fruit smoothie bowls, muesli and yogurt, buckwheat pancakes and omelettes. Course Structure

  • This course strictly adheres to Yoga Alliance standards for techniques, analytics, philosophy, anatomy, methodology, practicum, contact hours and self-study.

Meditation

  • Each morning starts with meditation, pranayama (breathing), bandhas (body locks) and kriyas (cleansing techniques) to open your energy channels, purify, balance and revitalize the body and mind. Ancient yoga began with meditation as a means to liberate oneself the suffering of ignorance, see clearly the ultimate reality and attain enlightenment or union with the divine. Daily. 

Yoga Practice

  • Vinyasa yoga connects traditional asanas and modified variations with breathe and movement to create graceful dynamic flows. Classes are designed according to various themes ranging anywhere from core work to heart opening. Each class is a unique experience that invokes a thoughtful journey to both test one’s limits and explore new possibilities. Hatha Yoga includes spiritual, in depth techniques themed with vedic calendar, asana categories, deities, chakras

Workshops & Events

  • Special workshops may include yoga for injuries and pregnancy, hands-on adjustments, yin yoga and aerial yoga. Additional events may include ecstatic dance, kirtan, mountain sauna, sound healing and more. Admission and taxi to special events not included and subject to change. 

Analytics

  • You will analyze the key poses of traditional hatha yoga asanas in regards to technique, form and alignment, then learn to modify and integrate them into vinyasa sequences for beginner and advanced levels. The goal is to understand their common foundation, form and function and build upon that to excel at more advanced styles like vinyasa.  

Teaching & Professional Essentials

  • Practice teaching everyday to gain experience and develop confidence. Learn teaching skills, working with different ages and levels and tools to succeed professionally. Design and teach an original 75 minute class each week followed by detailed feedback and analysis.

Anatomy (online 20 hours)

  • Gain a deeper understanding of the structures and principles underlying each movement and of yoga itself. See how specific muscles respond to the movements of the joints with biomechanics; how alterations of a pose can enhance or reduce effectiveness; how the spine, breathing, and body position are all fundamentally linked; and the various bodily systems. 

Philosophy (online 20 hours)

  • Create an authentic yogic lifestyle with the study of sacred texts and guidance in applying them to your daily life. Study the meaning of yoga, definitions of yoga, nature of self/soul, identification system, common terms of yoga, Bhagavad Gita essence, 4 paths of yoga, Patanjali 8 limbs, chakras, 4 states of consciousness, ayurveda intro, 4 yoga attitudes.

  • ULU Yoga is a 200/300/500-hour registered school with Yoga Alliance ID 198078. Upon successfully completing this course you will receive a Yoga Alliance Certificate and become a Registered Yoga Teacher. Shashi Mahler 

  • Shashi (Germany) is lead ULU Aerial Yoga Teacher, E-RYT 500hr Hatha-Yoga and 500hr Aerial Yoga. Shashi stepped on the path of Yoga more than 10 years ago with the passionate studies of western, yogic and buddhist philosophy. Her inexhaustible studies of metaphysical and energetical concepts, explaining the functions of the body and mind guided her to breathing and meditation techniques. Soon she came across the practice of physical yoga and found great emotional and mental relief in her daily practice. 

  • Shashi finished university and went abroad to enjoy silent retreats in nature and monasteries and study with renowned yoga masters. Based on this she created an intuitive restorative Aerial Yoga Style. The heart lead but western minded course shares the great gift of restorative Aerial yoga.  Her aim is to show the compassionate way of self-healing through the opening and acceptance of the body. Her grounded and determined personality together with her lighthearted easy laughter invites each student to more curiosity and depth within. 

Brett Moran 

  • Brett (U.K.) is a published author, entrepreneur and Yoga instructor who began his yoga and meditation journey 17 years ago in a dark and dingy prison cell. After his first wake up call, Brett taught himself to meditate and lived with monks in Thailand to transform his life around. He has completed a 300 hour YTT with Vikasa Yoga in Thailand and has numerous certifications and personal development. Brett is a qualified Rieki, EFT, and meditation practitioner.

  • In the last several years Brett has been teaching and running yoga and meditation workshops at festivals around Europe. He also runs his life-changing retreats in Asia, UK and Ibiza. He shares numerous Yoga styles and practices hatha, yin, tantra, restorative and more. Brett is a vegan, intermittent intermittent faster, and loves to share philosophical concepts and spiritual metaphors in his classes. Most of all, Brett is passionate about helping students ignite their personal power so they can live fearless and free.

Arihant Ortega

  • Arihant (Spain) found yoga in 2007 and spent many years traveling the world, volunteering in ecovillages and healing centres, visiting ashrams in India, studying under numerous teachers and living the yogic path. In Rishikesh, he obtained his 200-Hr certification under the guidance of Yogacharya Dinesh Shastri, disciple of Swami Yogananda Maharaj Ji. 

  • His exploration into the depths of Vedic culture led him to study Ayurveda at Ashramam Ayurveda Hospital and Training Institute of Kerala and Sanskrit and Mantra at the American Institute of Vedic Studies. Other qualifications include Sound Healing, Acroyoga, Thai massage and Indian Classical music. Arihant is a sincere caring soul passionate about enriching the lives of others with the sacred wisdom yoga in all aspects of life. He also loves puppies and has a great sense of humor.

Betty Kah 

  • Betty (Germany) trained 30 years ago as a fitness and Pilates instructor and has taught yoga since 1997. She completed 4 different yoga teacher trainings and many intensives and workshops. She was fortunate to study with and learn from the great Yogis of our time.(B.K.S Iyengar, K.Pathabi Jois T.K.V.Desikachar and A.G.Mohan). Her style of teaching could be described as Fusion Yoga, which combines Pilates Ashtanga, Hatha, Kriya, Pranayam and Yoga Philosophy. Betty produced 4 yoga Nidra C.D.”s and one version for children. Betty has been on the yogic path for 40 years and her emphasis is in moving through strong asana to the quiet still point within! With her husband Swami Pujan, who is an Advaita Vedanta meditation teacher, she travels the world to embody the essence of yoga. 

Stephan Kahlert 

  • Stephan aka Pujan ( AUS/Germany) is a trained Psychologist, Therapist, Councillor and RYT-500. He was a staff member of the Transpersonal Psychology Center, Blue mountains, Australia and one of the founding members of Australia’s biggest and most successful Yoga Teaching Center, Byron Yoga Center. He was studying Buddhist thought in both of the major schools and was initiated as a Zen Student. His later studies brought him to the nondual path of Vedanta under the guidance of his teacher James Schwartz. He has an extensive background in Yoga Philosophy and is the author of Advaita Vedanta for ordinary people. He is the co-director of Pujanyoga and is conducting training and talks all over the world with his wife Betty. 

  • “Spirituality is a difficult subject to teach. It is often taught either by Indians that have difficulty connecting with their western audience through their constant use of Sanskrit names and stories that are often pulled out of an Indian context. And with western teachers the difficulty is often that of too much intellectualising the subject. My wish is to bring the complex teachings of the Upanishads and the Yoga Sutras to a western audience that is relevant to their lives. Spirituality has to be practical and not only philosophical! There is a danger of course to oversimplifying the teachings, but I hope I can avoid this. You don't need to know Sanskrit, you don't need to believe in a God, you just have to have an open mind and use your intellect to understand the teachings. I love the logic in Vedanta and I want to bring that across in a non dogmatic fun and engaging way".

Cody Gavin Pizer 

  • Cody (South Africa) RYT-500, lead ULU Yoga Trainer. Cody  has been Teaching Yoga Globally for several years, and instructing on multiple Yoga Teacher Trainings as a lead and Senior Instructor.  He has trained in India and Thailand on Multi-style Vinyasa, Yoga, Hatha, Ashtanga and Yin Teacher Trainings, and attended multiple movement, anatomy and mediation workshops throughout Asia.  He has certifications in aerial and SUP yoga. Additionally he has several years experience in Qi Gong, Primal Movement, Contemporary Dance, Calisthenic training and a black belt in Taekwondo. 

  • Cody has taken the role of lead instructor on numerous Yoga Teacher Trainings for over several years. He specializes in Human Anatomy Related to Movement, Yoga, Buddhist and Classic Philosophy, Yoga Asana Analytics and Movement Clinics, Guided meditation and self meditation training, as well as Vinyasa, Aerial, Primal, Restorative and SUP Yoga. He is a long-time meditator, movement artist, vegan and intermittent faster plus has written books on mindfulness, meditation and Flow. 

  • Cody has led multiple mindfulness retreats, mixed movement arts and flow workshops in Bali, India, Malaysia, Thailand and Cambodia plus taught at the famous Yoga Barn in Bali and Blue Indigo in Cambodia. Cody has an uninhibited spirit, which directs his life and inspires others to grow beyond themselves. He has a passion for movement and mindfulness which connects disciplines and translates into his holistic approach to classes. Cody feels that it is his life purpose to share his knowledge and inspire others through yoga, movement and philosophy. Guiding his students to discover more about the miracle and magic that is life.

Dr Kalpana Karia (online only)

  • Since the age of nine Kalpana Karia started learning yoga from her father Dhanjibhai Khagram there after the age of 18 she went to London for her further studies in Radiology she always went to many yoga classes in London. After completing her studies in London she went to India In Rishikesh and took an intensive yoga teachers training course at Sivananda Ashram.

  • Yoga has always been her passion and she never stopped studying to update her knowledge up to today from 1982 to 1986 she did a television series teaching yoga on the local Kenyan television and published her first book YOGA FOR HEALTH which was based on her TV series. In 1997 she was appointed as the director for East African studies by the british school of Yoga she taught Yoga voluntarily and trained many teachers 

  • In 2010 she had a major car accident which was very traumatic but she revived herself through yoga and started teaching again in 2014. After meeting the PM of India Narendra Modi who encouraged her to write the second edition of her book in 2017 she wrote and published  her second edition YOGA FOR HEALTH wisdom and harmony. 

  • She has also received many awards for her presentations at international Yoga conferences around the world. In 2017 she was appointed as the director for East African studies by the international Federation of yoga professionals in New Delhi presently she conducts voluntary classes and teachers training courses in her hometown Kisumu, Kenya.   • ULU Yoga provides aerial swings, yoga mats, printed manuals and drinking water. Buy a SIM card at the airport or 711 for good wi-fi. Most people get a 30 day visa on arrival. Or you can apply for a 2 month visa in advance. You can easily get a 30 day visa extension on Koh Samui for 2,000THB.

  • I had the best experience with Ulu! The setting was on an island in Thailand- the resort was right next to the beach, and the weather was beautiful!!! There was a breakfast buffet everyday, which was amazing. And the beach (Haad Yao) was so picturesque. There were several instructors, and they were all amazing and knowledgeable!  I loved how they put an emphasis on safety and how the poses are for each person's body. The course was a lot more intense than I had anticipated- but you learn a lot, and you get a lot of teaching practice. I took the 200hr multi-style course, so I had the pleasure of experiencing SUP yoga (on a paddle-board), acroyoga, aerial yoga, yin, hatha, vinyasa, and even a taste of ashtanga.
